Artist Statement
Brigitte typically starts with a pencil, paper, and a set of questions about a silly idea. They set upon picking it apart the dead sin and the fresh malleable fruit they will come out in digital or acrylic color.
The process is dirty, messy, and akin to a childhood discovery. They end up covered in glitter and glue while trying to decipher a mystery of wet ink before they can dry.
This potluck will soon come to fruition as they reflect into the wet cups of ink, paint, and trial and error.
Each work is a rediscovery of reaffirmation to their audience and themselves of the patchwork wings on their back.
Always ready to take off into the clouds at any moment for inspiration, they continue to return with hope of acceptance by their peers and loved ones. Even when their work overflows with evidence of the obsessive emotional topography they have sketched, inked, and collaged their way through.
Brigitte is holding out their hand asking you to join them to witness the results of these journeys.
Bio
Brigitte Phillips is an artist born and raised in Miami by Cuban immigrants. The artist has studied across several fields from their primary years producing a school newscast and a literary magazine to their college career working with Univision to produce the short film, "Endless Cycle " while studying at Miami-Dade College's MAGIC program. Currently they are studying at FIU for their BFA.
